The Department of Criminology and Criminal Executive Law provides targeted training for specialists, masters of law; retraining and advanced training of leading personal of all levels, teaching staff for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies.
A significant amount of work on the coordinated activities of employees of the Department, solving all organizational issues (monitoring compliance with the schedule, individual schedules for teachers, cadets and students, replacement of teachers, their vacations, working hours, etc.) is entrusted to the Head of the Department Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Police Colonel Yurii Levchenko.
Employees of the Department are constantly involved in the development of various draft laws, government concepts and comprehensive target programs. They provide proposals for projects to structure the law enforcement system, the status and functions of the National Police.
In order to overcome the separation of theory from practice, employees of the Department periodically undergo internships in the practical bodies of the law enforcement system, because the primary activity of the unit is to ensure proper training in accordance with modern requirements.
The scientific staff of the Department (since its creation and to this day) conducts researches on topical issues of criminology and criminal executive law. A number of textbooks, manuals, monographs, scientific and practical recommendations, comments on legislation of Ukraine, based on these researches, had been prepared and published.
The Department has always paid and will pay considerable attention to the training of scientific personnel. During the period of its existence, the Department has studied and trained more than 180 associate professors and applicants.
Student science is also actively developing. Scientific circles on criminology and criminal executive law work under the guidance of scientific and pedagogical staff at the faculties and educational and scientific institutes of the Academy. Every year the Department organizes and holds interdepartmental and interuniversity round tables among cadets, students, masters and associate professors.
The Department constantly maintains contact with law enforcement officers, organizing lectures with their participation, as well as field trips to practical units, in particular: the court or Lukyanivska Prison.
Members of the Department are regular participants in scientific and practical conferences, symposiums, seminars, round tables, which take place both at the National Academy of Internal Affairs and in other universities.
At the same time, the Department annually organizes and holds a scientific-practical conference, which in recent years has been outlined by the topic "Criminological theory and practice: experience, current problems and ways to solve them." The Department closely cooperates with scientists of other higher educational institutions, research institutions of Ukraine and abroad.
The Department pays considerable attention to the improvement of educational and methodical work. The curricula, working curricula of academic disciplines, electronic versions of stock lectures are posted on the website of the academy. Methodical elaborations of tasks and plots for conducting practical classes, business games, trainings, audiovisual teaching aids, electronic textbooks, manuals, lecture courses, test tasks, tickets of final control have been prepared.
The department introduces the latest technologies to improve the quality of the educational process. For this purpose, electronic textbooks "Legal Statistics", "Criminology", "Criminological Victimology" were created.
In modern conditions, the Department is constantly improving its activities and uses the latest interactive techniques in the educational process. Practical classes in the form of police quests are held among students and cadets.
In order to popularize the educational activities of the Academy, explanation of the procedure and conditions of admission to study are given, contact information are provide by research and teaching staff, career guidance lectures with students of graduating classes of secondary schools, colleges, lyceums and more are held.
